The short version of Dihexa fits in a sentence. The long version — which is the one that helps — is below.
Reviewed 2026-08-01. Anything still debated is marked as such rather than presented as settled.
Lyophilized dihexa is typically stored as a dry powder at or below minus twenty degrees Celsius. Cooler temperatures slow degradation, and desiccant protection limits moisture uptake. Repeated temperature cycling can accelerate breakdown, so aliquoting before storage is common in laboratory practice. Solutions are generally less stable than dry powder and are often kept cold, protected from light, and used within a defined period. Specific stability data for dihexa are limited, and handling recommendations often follow general peptide guidelines rather than compound-specific studies.
Identity and purity are usually assessed with reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. These methods can separate related impurities and confirm molecular mass, but they do not by themselves establish biological activity. Certificate of analysis documents may report purity as a percentage by area, yet the exact meaning can vary between laboratories. Independent testing can check for residual solvents, counterions, or microbial contamination when relevant. For research use, matching analytical records to a specific lot helps trace experimental variability.
The proposed mechanism for dihexa centers on hepatocyte growth factor, or HGF, and its receptor c-Met. HGF signaling is involved in cell growth, survival, and synapse formation. Dihexa has been described as an HGF mimetic or modulator in preclinical literature. Whether it binds c-Met directly, increases HGF availability, or acts through another route remains uncertain. This mechanistic uncertainty is a recurring theme in reviews of the compound, and no single molecular model has been confirmed across independent laboratories.
Research on dihexa has primarily used rodent models and cultured cells. Common endpoints include dendritic spine density, synaptic protein expression, and performance on maze or avoidance tasks. Some studies report improvements in cognitive measures after scopolamine-induced deficits or in aged animals. These findings are interesting but come from a small body of work, and independent laboratories have not consistently replicated all reported effects. Larger, preregistered studies would help clarify which results are robust.
Human data for dihexa remain absent from peer-reviewed clinical literature. As a result, questions about absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and long-term safety are unresolved. Discussions often appear in nootropic forums, where anecdotal reports cannot substitute for controlled trials. Researchers have called for more rigorous pharmacokinetic and toxicological studies before any clinical evaluation. Until such data exist, dihexa is best described as an investigational research compound rather than a proven intervention.

Early laboratory work focused on its effects on synaptic connectivity and neuronal signaling. In cell and animal models, dihexa has been reported to promote the formation of new synapses, a process called synaptogenesis. These findings have generated interest in cognitive research, but the evidence base remains mostly preclinical. Human clinical trials with clear safety and efficacy endpoints are limited or absent in the public literature. Whether these effects translate to humans is an open question.
The proposed mechanism involves interaction with the hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) system and its receptor, c-Met. Dihexa is described in some studies as an HGF mimetic, meaning it may mimic or enhance HGF-mediated signaling. Activation of c-Met can influence cell growth, survival, and cytoskeletal remodeling, pathways that intersect with synaptic plasticity. However, the precise binding targets and downstream events for dihexa are not fully established, and alternative mechanisms have been suggested.
Dihexa is not approved as a medicine in major regulatory jurisdictions. It is commonly sold as a research chemical for laboratory use, though such products may not be standardized or independently verified. Scientific literature on dihexa includes in vitro assays, rodent studies, and reviews that discuss its proposed mechanism. The distinction between peer-reviewed findings and commercial promotion is important when evaluating available information. Open questions include its precise binding interactions, pharmacokinetics, and whether animal results translate to human biology.
Dihexa is a synthetic peptide derived from angiotensin IV, a naturally occurring fragment of the renin-angiotensin system. Researchers modified the angiotensin IV structure to improve metabolic stability and central nervous system activity. It is frequently described as a hepatocyte growth factor mimetic because it can activate the c-Met receptor pathway in experimental systems. Its development reflects interest in small peptides that influence synaptic plasticity and cognitive processes. Most information comes from preclinical studies rather than controlled human trials.
The compound has been examined in animal models for effects on learning, memory, and synaptic connectivity. Some reports describe increased dendritic spine density and improved performance on certain behavioral tasks after administration in rodents. These findings are often cited in discussions of nootropic research peptides, but replication across independent laboratories remains limited. The absence of published phase 1 or phase 2 clinical trial data makes it difficult to assess safety, effective routes, or long-term outcomes in humans. Consequently, claims about cognitive benefits in people remain speculative.
Development of dihexa followed from studies on angiotensin IV analogs and their effects on learning and memory. Researchers sought compounds with improved metabolic stability and brain penetration compared with natural peptides. In preclinical reports, dihexa was associated with changes in synaptic connectivity and performance on spatial tasks. These findings generated interest in its potential as a cognitive research tool. The work remains largely preclinical, and independent replication has been limited.
Regulatory and commercial contexts differ from clinical medicine. Dihexa is not approved as a drug by major agencies, and no published human trials establish its safety or efficacy. It is often sold as a research chemical labeled for laboratory use only. Suppliers may provide certificates of analysis, but purity and identity depend on the specific batch. Legal status varies by country and may treat such compounds as unapproved substances for human consumption.
Quality control usually combines reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry. Chromatography estimates purity and detects related impurities, while mass spectrometry supports molecular identity. Nuclear magnetic resonance can provide additional structural confirmation when needed. Stability data for dihexa are limited, and degradation pathways may depend on pH, temperature, and moisture. Open questions include long-term stability in different formulations and the effect of repeated freeze-thaw cycles on measured purity. Such tests help confirm that a batch matches its label before use.
In laboratory settings, dihexa is typically handled as a lyophilized peptide powder. Appropriate personal protective equipment and a ventilated workspace are standard practices for weighing and transferring research chemicals. Because the compound lacks regulatory approval for clinical use, it should not be given to people. Institutional safety rules and local regulations govern its acquisition, storage, and disposal. Suppliers often provide a certificate of analysis that lists purity, identity, and batch-specific handling notes.

This reaction is strongly exothermic, so the equilibrium constant decreases with temperature. However, a temperature of around 400 °C is required in order to achieve a reasonable rate of reaction with currently available catalysts. Formation of ammonia is also favoured by high pressure, as the volume decreases when the reaction takes place. The same reaction, nitrogen fixation, occurs at ambient temperatures in nature, when the catalyst is an enzyme such as nitrogenase. Much energy is needed initially to break the nitrogen–nitrogen triple bond even though the overall reaction is exothermic. Gas-phase equilibria occur during combustion and were studied as early as 1943 in connection with the development of the V2 rocket engine. The calculation of composition for a gaseous equilibrium at constant pressure is often carried out using ΔG values, rather than equilibrium constants.
Alfred Fabian Hess, his research associate, stated: "Light equals vitamin D." In 1932, Otto Rosenheim and Harold King published a paper putting forward structures for sterols and bile acids, and soon thereafter collaborated with Kenneth Callow and others on the isolation and characterization of vitamin D. Windaus further clarified the chemical structure of vitamin D. In 1969, a specific binding protein for vitamin D called the vitamin D receptor was identified. Shortly thereafter, the conversion of vitamin D to calcifediol and then to calcitriol, the biologically active form, was confirmed. The photosynthesis of vitamin D3 in skin via previtamin D3 and its subsequent metabolism was described in 1980. The discovery of vitamin D helped to increase the viability and prevalence of intensive animal farming. Prior to its discovery, mortality rates were higher whenever farm animals were moved indoors during winter. Being able to place vitamin D in the feed removed that issue and enabled placing a high number of animals in year-round indoor farming.

This difference was characterised by an attenuated EEG power density within slow frequencies (<4 Hz) following flmodafinil treatment, though both compounds increased power density relative to placebo. In contrast to modafinil, flmodafinil is not an inducer of the cytochrome P450 CYP3A4 or CYP3A5 enzymes.
Given this uncertainty, between April–May 2006 at the JINR, a FLNR–PSI team conducted experiments probing the synthesis of this isotope as a daughter in the nuclear reaction 242Pu(48Ca,3n)287Fl. (The 242Pu + 48Ca fusion reaction has a slightly larger cross-section than the 238U + 48Ca reaction, so that the best way to produce copernicium for chemical experimentation is as an overshoot product as the daughter of flerovium.) In this experiment, two atoms of copernicium-283 were unambiguously identified and the adsorption properties were interpreted to show that copernicium is a more volatile homologue of mercury, due to formation of a weak metal-metal bond with gold. This agrees with general indications from some relativistic calculations that copernicium is "more or less" homologous to mercury. However, it was pointed out in 2019 that this result may simply be due to strong dispersion interactions. In April 2007, this experiment was repeated and a further three atoms of copernicium-283 were positively identified. The adsorption property was confirmed and indicated that copernicium has adsorption properties in agreement with being the heaviest member of group 12. These experiments also allowed the first experimental estimation of copernicium's boiling point: 84+112−108 °C, so that it may be a gas at standard conditions. Because the lighter group 12 elements often occur as chalcogenide ores, experiments were conducted in 2015 to deposit copernicium atoms on a selenium surface to form copernicium selenide, CnSe.
==== MRGPRX2 mast cell receptor ==== Human mast-cell-specific G-protein-coupled receptor MRGPRX2 plays a key role in the recognition of pathogen associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and initiating an antibacterial response. Binding of MRGPRX2 to competence stimulating peptide (CSP) 1, produced by Gram-positive bacteria, leads to signal transduction to a G protein and activation of the mast cell. Mast cell activation induces the release of antibacterial mediators including ROS, TNF-α and PRGD2 which institute the recruitment of other immune cells to inhibit bacterial growth and biofilm formation.
=== Legacy === A research center that was planned in the 1970s was opened in 1975 (CBM) in the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM). After his death, it was named the Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa. In Leganés, Madrid, a hospital bears his name, as does the Madrid Metro station serving it, Hospital Severo Ochoa. The asteroid 117435 Severochoa is also named in his honor. In 2003, the Spanish General Post Office (Correos) issued a €0,76 postage stamp honoring Ochoa, as one of a pair featuring Spanish medical Nobel Prize winners alongside Santiago Ramón y Cajal. In June 2011, the United States Postal Service issued a stamp honoring him, as part of the American Scientists collection, along with Melvin Calvin, Asa Gray, and Maria Goeppert-Mayer. This was the third volume in the series. The main road in to the tourist resort Benidorm is named Avenida Dr. Severo Ochoa in his honor.

=== Replacement by cysteine in mammals === Most mammal selenoproteins have a small amount (about 10%) of the selenocystine replaced by cystine, increasing to 50% on selenium-deficient diets. This is achieved by SLA/LP accepting thiophosphate instead of selenophosphate, thereby converting the phosphoseryl into a regular cystyl.
== History == The compound may have been synthesised by either Jābir ibn Hayyān in the 8th century or Ramon Llull in 1275. It was synthesised in 1540 by Valerius Cordus, who called it "sweet oil of vitriol" (oleum dulce vitrioli) – the name reflects the fact that it is obtained by distilling a mixture of ethanol and sulfuric acid (then known as oil of vitriol) – and noted some of its medicinal properties. At about the same time, Paracelsus discovered the analgesic properties of the molecule in dogs. The name ether was given to the substance in 1729 by August Sigmund Frobenius. It was considered to be a sulfur compound until the idea was disproved in about 1800. The synthesis of diethyl ether by a reaction between ethanol and sulfuric acid has been known since the 13th century.
=== Software packages === As described by Andreotti et al. in 2012, Antilope is a combination of Lagrangian relaxation and an adaptation of Yen's k shortest paths. It is based on 'spectrum graph' method and contains different scoring functions, and can be comparable on the running time and accuracy to "the popular state-of-the-art programs" PepNovo and NovoHMM. Grossmann et al. presented AUDENS in 2005 as an automated de novo peptide sequencing tool containing a preprocessing module that can recognize signal peaks and noise peaks. Lutefisk can solve de novo sequencing from CID mass spectra. In this algorithm, significant ions are first found, then determine the N- and C-terminal evidence list. Based on the sequence list, it generates complete sequences in spectra and scores them with the experimental spectrum. However, the result may include several sequence candidates that have only little difference, so it is hard to find the right peptide sequence. A second program, CIDentify, which is a modified version by Alex Taylor of Bill Pearson's FASTA algorithm, can be applied to distinguish those uncertain similar candidates. Mo et al. presented the MSNovo algorithm in 2007 and proved that it performed "better than existing de novo tools on multiple data sets". This algorithm can do de novo sequencing interpretation of LCQ, LTQ mass spectrometers and of singly, doubly, triply charged ions. Different from other algorithms, it applied a novel scoring function and use a mass array instead of a spectrum graph. Fisher et al. proposed the NovoHMM method of de novo sequencing.
=== Absorption === The bioavailability of meloxicam is decreased when administered orally compared to an equivalent IV bolus dose. Different oral formulations of meloxicam are not bioequivalent. Use of oral meloxicam following a high-fat breakfast increases the mean peak drug levels by about 22%; however, the manufacturer does not make any specific meal recommendations. In addition, the use of antacids does not show pharmacokinetic interactions. With chronic dosing, the time to maximum plasma concentration following oral administration is approximately 5–6 hours.
=== March === 8 March The report of a 20-year survey by The Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland revealed that 56% of Ireland's native plant species are in decline due to habitat loss, altered grazing pressure, and degradation (re-seeding, over-fertilising, nitrogen deposition, herbicides, soil drainage, mineral enrichment), rather than rising temperatures whose botanical effects – so far – are minor. By contrast, 80% of non-native plants introduced into Ireland since 1500 have increased. The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar marked International Women's Day by announcing the Government's intention to hold a referendum to enshrine gender equality in the Constitution by amending Articles 40 and 41. 13 March – President of the United States Joe Biden announced that he will visit Ireland, north and south, in April for the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement (signed on 10 April 1998). It was reported two weeks later that Biden will arrive in Belfast on 11 April, then he will be based in Dublin from 12 to 15 April from where he will make trips to other parts of the country. Former US president Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary will visit Belfast the following week. 15 March – 46-year-old Stephen Silver was found guilty of the capital murder of Detective Garda Colm Horkan who was shot dead in Castlerea, County Roscommon in June 2020. 16 March – Ryan Tubridy announced that he would be stepping down as the presenter of The Late Late Show after 14 years, with his last show in May.
